today's mouse: caught literally the smallest skinniest guy of all time in the humane trap yesterday 😭 I cannot exaggerate how small this mouse was-- it was still a house mouse/same species, but the tiniest adult (or at least near-adult) I have ever seen in my life. I release them outside, usually a little over a mile away so they don't return. I know their odds aren't great surviving in random spots with some grass and bushes, but I figure it's better than most other options.
One time I tried to release a wild mouse into a bush and it fully ran the opposite way crossing a multi-lane road, and managed to make it the entire way across and disappear into a different bush?! I got so scared for a moment. Mice can be unpredictable.
quick edit to add: the traps are placed in a couple spots on the floor in my apartment, this guy was caught in the kitchen-- since it's an old building it occasionally gets mice in it so that's where they come from
