do i think gamedev is one of the most frustrating creative passions you could have? yes. do i think anybody who wants to pursue it should? also yes. why? because i love you. and love games.
when i started college, i remember the head of the department had a little presentation for anybody going into the computer science program, and she very flatly tells us: I know what most of you are really here for. You want to make video games. I'm telling you that's not worth it. The market is horrible. If you wanted to make games you'd have better luck getting a real programming job, and doing that on your free time.
and honestly i feel a whole lot more true to myself for not following that advice! i'm so glad i make games ^_^ it's tough, yes, but, i feel so much more proud of what i do!! i know i'd feel soulless if i were programming for some bank or something.
I second this. Doing game dev was the best thing I could have ever done. Passion and love are truly moving feelings.
