The problem with playing old PC games is sometimes they map core stuff onto keyboard keys you absolutely don't have. Gotta see if this has key remapping, otherwise I'll have to hook up an extended keyboard with a numpad.

Also turns out this is a rip that's missing the music, boo. I wonder if a full rip is floating around... actually finding an original game disc from somewhere that ships to Canada is probably impossible.

(Though that does make me wonder what thrift stores in Vancouver might actually have old PC games sitting around from the time when you could really easily get new Chinese-language PC games in stores here.)

OK I found a control scheme that works and I have to say, this game is delightful. They seem to love these little creatures and make really good use of them. The presentation is great.

i for one applaud this keymap. directionals should be on the left hand, like they are on gamepads, arcade sticks and keyb+mouse games.
none of this arrows + ZX nonsense :p
i actually often map numpad 0/1/2/3 as buttons in games.

Yeah, it's honestly a pretty good idea! The default mappings go for that, with player 1 using d-pad plus numpad buttons and player 2 using wasd and hjk as buttons. They offer an option to swap to movement keys on the right, but I think the default is really reasonable.
