actually backed up by linguistics! the usual order of emergence of color words in a language group goes dark/light, then red, then green, then maybe further distinctions. (there may be languages that don't even get to green? don't recall, nearly certain there are recorded, if not living, examples of languages without blue.)

anyway if yellow hasn't been distinguished in a language, it's usually called red! (can also be white.) in fact you can find plenty of sources in both Old English and Old Norse describing gold (the metal) as red.
