English needs a quote punctuation that means "this is not a direct quote, but a paraphrase". But you still use the quote to indicate that the thought is ascribed to someone/something else.

thats cute! Im just saying "Direct quote [paraphrased subsection] continued direct quote" already exists, so as a computer scientist i see no reason not push that to the boundary
