I met my wife 20 years ago, today :)
I forget that people on the internet can be any age sometimes
congratulations on the anniversary! or whatever it is idk
I'm old as hell! but I met her when I was a wee babe at the tender age of 17
I'd like to think she keeps me young ;)
When I first saw nago, I thought they were this webcomic artist, because my roommate was a mod in an IRC chat room for that comic and was hosting a pre-con meetup in our dorm. Nago looked just like the artist's sketch of themselves, so I put on my cutest top and checked my deodorant, then waited until both my roommate and this new person had settled in (she had gone to pick whoever this was at the airport, and had left in a panic). I sauntered down the hallway, feeling very cute, as I had been surrounded by several gay ladies constantly telling me that if I could just give up cute boys, they would happily make sure I didn't regret it.
When I got to the entry area of our dorm room, and saw who it was, I knew right away I had the wrong person, but I had just made a very confident entrance and I could see my roommate giving me a weird look, so I kept my momentum and boldly introduced myself. Our guest had flooped into an armchair and looked back at my roommate, kinda confused, and replied hello, giving their name and confirming for me that I had walked into the room, cleavage out, for a completely different person than I thought. So I said "nice to meet you" and FLED back to my quiet and tidy room, promptly putting on a more modest outfit.
Thankfully, nago claims they don't remember this exchange, but they do recall a nice older college girl hanging out with them over the weekend, and by the time they headed home, nago had stolen one of the Santa hats I had in my closet, the nicest and warmest one, in fact.
I've gotten to be around nago in all kinds of weather and I can attest that they are the kindest, most "want others to be okay and at their best" person I know. To a little angsty book nerd with abandonment issues, they have always been my home. Nago's got a heart of pure gold and if they're looking out for you, it's gonna turn out alright.
So if you chat with my wife over the next couple days, give them an extra :3 from me.
