Thinking about all the "funny" stories my mom used to tell me about the way white people treated her after she moved to The Netherlands. She would share them with me like they were hilarious anecdotes. Isn't it funny how she got called the N-word constantly not just by randos in the street, but white in-laws as well?
She would find any instance of blackface so funny. She'd read the racist French/Belgian comics, and the Little Black Sambo picture book and just laugh and laugh.
Like good god, mom. I know we have a garbage relationship, but you didnt deserve any of that shit. I suppose there are worse ways to cope than with humor, but I also suspect you're deep in denial about how this racist ass piece of shit country has treated you your whole life.
Despite our rocky relationship, and the emotional and physical abuse, you deserved better.
