If you're a developer here on cohost and would want me to play your game on my stream, I will never expect anything beyond a copy of the game to play. Any of you reading this as a regular user of cohost can absolutely contact me to try out your game.

If you are able to afford to hire some marketing firm to contact me to play the game unsolicited without any incentive or return in kind, I am not going to reply.

There isn't even an offer to promote my stream which should be the bare minimum. Making a video is all they ask me to do with no explanation on how this benefits me. It reeks of an attempt to get free labour.

I also question whether or not this game would even be remotely appropriate to play considering the subject matter.

I know that the games industry is highly competitive for eyes, but there have to be better ways to go about doing this. If you're a game developer and you think that I am wrong, please do let me know how I am out to lunch here.

What a scummy tactic on the part of the marketing company. I do hope the game developers are in the dark on this one because it is such an invasion of privacy. I would have not replied were this not done.

  • They just wanted to get more people to play the game for free
  • Since I complained, they asked me what I would charge for 2 hours
  • And mailtracker is not "an invasion of privacy" mm hmm

In case you're wondering, this is the company. I am not replying any further to Julia.

fondly remembering the days when email clients would just not load remote assets, at all and you have to opt-in, per message, to do so

(gmail eventually defaulted to always showing remote content which makes this kind of shit super possible and i did my part by disabling it. fuck trackers)
