the distinguishing feature of Bloodborne among its "soulslike" siblings is the way the entire game is tilted to push you towards aggression. the rally mechanic, the trick weapons, and yes the fact that there's only one shield in the game and it's awful all bend in this singular direction. it's not just dark victorian streets and creepy monsters!

this is a really good point actually, I didn't notice because I just don't ever remember to use block mechanics, but it's kinda skipping the single most important piece in defining the flow of gameplay there
