The Super Nintendo could use palettes that selected from colors with 5 bits per channel, leading to a total of 32768 colors it could select from for its palettes. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive could use palettes that selected from colors with 3 bits per channel, leading to a total of 512 colors it could select from for its palettes.
