for those who don't know, mormon youth do this thing where they pull handcarts through the desert for three days to simulate the experience of the mormon pioneers "escaping persecution" from the east. imagine larping oregon trail. it's as fun as it sounds.
my prevailing memory was one of the elders stepping out dressed as an angel to tell some of us that we had died on the trail and they were taken away in a truck.
And I thought Catholics had a persecution complex. That's the most cringefail (derogatory) thing I've ever heard in my entire life

You know, I thought being raised catholic/going to catholic school was a weird experience (and it 100% was), but every time I hear you talk about mormonism it realize it could have been much weirder

For some reason this story reminds me of when Springfield/Shelbyville were founded.
Step one for mine was going right up a very rocky mountain. We were lied to constantly about there being just one or two more hills to go over too.
At least it was catered!
