Today's morning music: Joe Sealy's Africville Suite, an original jazz album from 1996 that's a reflection on life in Africville, Halifax.
This is one of the CDs I inherited from my dad after he passed away. It's one I don't have any memories of him listening to, but it's become a favourite since. Africville was a Black neighbourhood in Halifax which the city forcibly demolished in the 60s. It's a bit of a concept album, telling the community's history through its musical influences along with spoken word poetry that accompanies a few of the songs. Really great album.
