but the fine print says the money is only a short-term thing and it will be a meaningless gesture going forward

tipping is normally considered to be a positive for the company because it allows them to pay workers less, so that seems weird on the face of it

we're unable to see any explanation for why Amazon would do this other than that they're upset that the public has growing awareness of the horrible working conditions the company creates, so they're maybe trying to channel public pro-worker sentiment into an outlet that doesn't accomplish anything? something like that?

They ran this shit by us at the grocery store, like I was told in training about there being a bounty if you report a shoplifter, but the reward was like meaninglessly small. It's like they know their employees want more money so they're like okay Be good and we'll give you a gold star
