Left Click Right Click
Hold Release

ok so this is a "VNC client"/shared VM! Click the screen to move the cursor, use the buttons at the bottom to control the mouse.
When the mouse is being held down, the cursor circle will be blue
On Firefox/Safari you do need to ctrl+click instead of normal clicking, otherwise things break.
Please dont look up things that are too weird. make sure to share controls with eachother, theres no cooldown right now. If you want any software install CDs let me know :P
(this will likely be on and off intermittently, i want to be around to make sure nothing bad happens)
(also shoutout to @UnrealIncident for letting me borrow a shorter domain name so i could make the input higher resolution)

"To whoever I saw who I think was trying to set up remote access (TeamViewer) not thru cohost vnc, please don't :) that ruins it for other people and also makes me worry about other things
Tldr- Please don't install any remote access programs!

Also don't look at porn. This post isn't marked 18+, that's like watching porn on a computer in a public library

i set the wallpaper to girls_kissing.flv.swf.html (it was girls_kissing.gif.html first but IE was chugging)

in reply to @mintexists's post:

hijacking this comment to make it visible: the internet machine broke because the date is 2035 on the VM, so SSL breaks. setting it to today will fix it, but i can't do it myself rn

wait is https broken on this box or why cant i load cohost

someone is trying to install haskell now. i have temporarily routed lexi dot re to the 0x0st post with the SID to log in, but if they manage to install haskell that would be funny too

is it possible to have some kind of group policy setting or something that prevents the cohost user from shutting down the machine? seems like that may be a good idea if possible lol

windows XP is considerably simpler than modern OSes and there is a lot of documentation, but i also do not blame you for not wanting to waste a lot of brain power on it!

here are some things i dug up!

disable shutdown

HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
DWORD NoClose = 1

disable logoff

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ Explorer
DWORD NoLogOff = 1

and/or

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
DWORD StartMenuLogOff = 1

(might work with HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE too but i did not test it)

disable switch user

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
DWORD HideFastUserSwitching = 1

group policy editor

win+r type gpedit.msc

i used to do a LOT of customization and deep tinkering with Win2k and XP

bbLean was my desktop shell of choice at the time and there are some super edgy desktop screenshots with big digital upside down crosses and goth alice in wonderland artwork somewhere lol

at one point i had accidentally remapped all executables to be opened with notepad, so except with strange workarounds i could not normally open anything, eventually i figured a way to launch regedit from maybe process manager and guessed at the right reg key formatting to fix the issue 🫠

mee :3, i had to run to the storee right after gettin the test program compiled but it's super cool seein it work~, i wasn't sure if it was gonna work so i jus installed the portable version in C:\apps, we can create shortcuts on the desktop n in the start menu tomorrow~ (also reminder to self gotta install dejavu sans mono too :3)

awesome!! i popped in right as you were extracting it with 7zip and i was captivated.

also speaking of fonts i was tempted to troll and select impact as the ide font but that would have been kinda mean lol

hey uhh by remote access you wouldn't happen to mean the client with user agent definitely-not-trying-to-write-a-control-script/0.1.0 would you...? i might have written a silly interface for the project in Rust,,
i've stopped and won't run it anymore if desired!!
if curious it's essentially displaying the VM in a dedicated window with keybinds to move the mouse and left/right click :3

edit: to clarify this only uses the URLs accessible via the cohost post, no direct access shenanigans!

i have tried my darndest to get ublock working, but i've tripped at the last hurdle and my patience has run out. if anyone wants to complete my work, follow the instructions here under "manual import method" - godspeed

also thanks so much for making this mint, it's super cool and i've had a lot of fun messing with it!!!

yay! i tried installing the cert but it looks like someone already did, so i did the final step (resetting the validation timestamp and restarting firefox) and it looks like ublock works now! loaded up a site that normally has ads (phoronix) and no ads~

const frame = document.createElement("iframe");
frame.name="clicktarget"
document.body.append(frame);
[...document.querySelectorAll('[href^="//r0t.is"]')].map(e=>e.target="clicktarget");

fixes the clicks-stop-loading issue :)

It's ok if it's in the recycle bin as long as it's not running
Im glad you learned from it tho! Its a super cool idea, but I just really worry that a faster input method would give one person unfair control over the vm and would make it wayyy easier to do malicious things without being stopped, especially because I'm bororowing this server hosting from a friend and don't want to have any bad shit become their problem
