the people making fun of cohost for not planning for Stripe suddenly cracking down on tips will have the same joy in their voice when Ko-fi is on the chopping block, right /s

same thing for the mastodon admins saying that (I havent checked but i know for a fact they exist, they've been around in the past) I'm sure they will share the same sentiment when liberapay stops being able to operate, when in a year or two gofundme has to shut down because credit card companies decide that actually fuck the poors they can't raise money either.

what's the fucking plan here? to make fun of your fellow worker? to make fun of them for not thinking that suddenly they might have to change all their plans because the capitalists decided that they should starve?

what does that accomplish?

like i swear this shit angers me almost as much as the people wishing misery on tech workers1 who are getting laid off by saying "haha! look at them! they told us to learn to code and now they are struggling". like you do realize most people are in the same mess as you are, right? you do realize that just because someone works at an "easier job" they still have rent to make, families/relatives to feed, and a boss above their head that could decide to fire them overnight, right?

you know that, right?

sometimes i wonder

  1. note that I'm saying workers, not executives

I run a Mastodon instance as a volunteer/out-of-pocket thing. Am I supposed to be feeling resentful that someone else is doing things differently? Happy that tools that could serve all of us are being snatched away because it's affecting someone I don't like? It just seems so short-sighted to approach things that way.

Between this and “we’re all so much better than Mastodon” attitude it makes me just not want to use that website. I’m not above bickering about other websites but riding a VC venture’s rod to feel smug about Twitter 2 is so bizarre man
