The second most important thing to know about Escaflowne is that the big bad's identity as Isaac fucking Newton is completely irrelevant to the plot and comes up once during a two minute flashback sequence
(the third thing you need to know about escaflowne is that isaac newton became the bad guy because the angels from atlantis gave him the secret to immortality and changing the future and it turns out you just have to think really hard about it!!!)
also there are dragons and there are mecha (with swords) and sometimes there are both at the same time but tbh all that is way less important than evil isaac newton's atlantis fate machine
