contemplating a crab's immortality

This post has content warnings for: insect, fucking enormous moth.

this gorgeous girl materialized on my back door yesterday and did not respond as i went in and out of the house, so my first thought was that she had stuck herself to the door and then perished. i tried poking her a little yesterday to see if she was, in fact, alive, and got no response, but i don't know from moths so i let her be.

today she's still there, so i tried poking her a little more until one of her little feeties dislodged from the door, and she did the usual "hey get off of me" leg-shake and returned to her position

What Is Going On What Is She Doing How Can I Help. i don't mind if she just stays there, but why has The Biggest Bug I've Ever Seen installed herself on my door. should i offer her a carrot slice

She doesn't have a mouth to eat with, but I'm sure she appreciates the thought. She's waiting for some big fat moth dudes to show up so they can bang and she can lay a huge amount of eggs before she dies in a few days.

Or possibly she's already laid them and is waiting to die. The adult lifespan of these big moths is very short.
