contemplating a crab's immortality

after watching Shin Ultraman and being shocked by how much I loved it, I REALLY wanted more and ended up watching Ultraman Z... finally finished it after 25 weeks of some of the most joyful action I've ever seen 😭

also it features Sevenger, the most oomfie-coded hero robot in existence. look at this guy. he's doing his best. he goes >:| when he's determined!!!

I am going to miss these dorks so much... who knew it would be so much fun to see science team nerds hollering about a hero in a rubber suit stomping in a little model city while pyrotechnics go off and little model cars go flying whenever a monster gets punched too hard. just NON-STOP SUPER FUN SPECIAL EFFECTS. it's really impossible to describe the approach to the practical effects work other than "really joyful," there's just tons of shots where they go to so much extra effort for the sake of doing something fun and it's ALWAYS great to see

anyway the whole show is on youtube legally and I would super recommend it

Also throwing out there, if you have access to Tubi or ShoutFactory TV, they have a ton of Ultraman series available for streaming. I worked my way through Ultra Q that way and it ruled!

Yeah Ultraman is great!

If you're in North America, check out Ultraman Mebius (50 episodes) or Ultraman X for a shorter commitment. These are some of my faves.

in reply to @love's post:

Ultraman and Tokusatsu in general are so friggin fun and silly. And the shows are not embarrassed by how indulgent and silly they are. They do the thing that they and every viewer wants to see and they do it with gusto.

And yeah the people doing the costumes and effects seem like they are living their best life. Like it’s just non-stop “hey everyone guess what we have another villain or hero to make what over the top cool shit do we wanna do this time”
