contemplating a crab's immortality

So a while ago, Twitch introduced this Ad Incentive Program. It was like "Hey, just have 1 minute of ads an hour, and you get a little bonus!" The bonuses were absolutely pitiful then, so I didn't take it, but a bit later they did a rehaul. Now the bonus is just "you get 100% of the ad revenue", and after testing it for a month, it greatly increased my income. I went from 350 a month to about 650. But now, it was requiring 3 minutes of ad an hour. That's a LOT of ads, and they're always interrupting Good Shit, and it sucks. I hate it.

So what is a Goblin to do? Well, I kinda put up with it. 300 extra dollars a month is nothing to sneeze at. But you noticed how they slid the line from 1 minute to 3? Yeah uh, they slid the line again. In the past month, with no warning, and without telling me, they slid my line from 3 minutes an hour to 4 minutes an hour. And that dropped me from the ad incentive program, and now I'm making 55% of the money from the ads. So suddenly my income dropped, like, quite a bit.

And they've got me by the balls. That extra 200-ish dollars was really, really useful. But Twitch is just a small indie company, they NEED MORE AD MONEY. They want my stream to be 100% ads if they can help it. But the ads are already chaffing my community. Every single time ads pop up, people complain. Or they leave. I had to make a rule to stop complaining about the ads, because it was getting so exhausting, and it's all chat would devolve to (I removed that rule after some people got upset about it, kinda understandably, but the conversation is just so exhausting...)

I feel like if I stretch with them, to try and make back that extra 100-150 dollars, I will snap too far. People will snap too far with me. So I guess I'm just making less money now. Yeah sure, I appreciate that, Twitch, I didn't need that money to eat or pay medical bills, anyway.

People also leverage blame at Twitch when the truth is they're being bled like a pig by Amazon for Amazon's services. Twitch gets no special discount from Amazon's video service so they just have to eat huge service fees unmitigated and it's only gotten worse in the pandemic Twitch boom.

I actually don't like doing that lol

I lose track of time when I'm playing stuff, and suddenly BAM, IT'S BREAK TIME. STOP WHAT YOU'RE PLAYING RIGHT NOW.

I'm usually in the middle of something and enjoying my game, I don't WANT to take a break lol.

a thing i heard a big twitch streamer does is, they run like 15 minutes of ads when they open the stream. that way, it lets people enter the stream with plenty of time, and twitch wont bother for the ads every hour. i havent streamed in over 1 year, so i dont know if this works for non partners, but its a thing you can try?
