maybe these are already well known but I'm not much of a shoe person so they were new to me: if you have a disability that makes tying shoes hard or impossible, you might be interested in https://zebashoes.com/
They're fairly ordinary, lace-up shoes, except that the heel is meant to be stepped on. It has a steel band inside mounted on a spring loaded hinge, so you just put them on and tie them normally once, then you can step in and out by just slipping the heel down. The hinge makes it much easier than squashing down the heel of a normal shoe, but without sacrificing grip like you do with conventional slip-ons; these stay on my feet a lot better than I expected.
I tried on a pair at Wide Shoes Only in Renton (an inexplicably pleasant shoe store for people with large feet) and immediately bought them to use around the house; I want a bit more security for my Going Out And Doing Things shoes so I still got a conventional pair, but I figure these could be primaries for a lot of people. They were also about $150 which is not an absurd price for Special Shoes.
I figured this probably wasn't utterly exclusive technology and it looks like at least someone else makes similar things, but these are the only ones I have experience with.
