contemplating a crab's immortality

I read a lot of gaming zines.

I like Indie Tsushin (https://cohost.org/renkotsuban) which is all about Japanese doujin games.

Indiepocalypse (https://cohost.org/PIZZAPRANKS) is a zine that is really a collection of games. It contains an original game every issue and the game developers actually get paid. Wow!

The Weird Fucking Games zine (https://wfgames.net/games/untitled-zine-game/) is a joy to read with its bite-sized summaries of an immense variety of unusual games.

I edit ChoiceBeat: The Visual Novel and Interactive Fiction Zine (https://choicebeat.wordpress.com/)

Having laid that out, I have two questions: 1) Are there any other gaming zines of interest? 2) How can we, as a community of gaming zine creators, help each other out?

I'm compiling a list of game zines to go in a future issue of ChoiceBeat. I'm also going to start a links page on the ChoiceBeat homepage. But I wonder if there is something BIGGER we could do collectively?

That's a really good question, actually! I'd love for a space for folks to share resources and advice that isn't Discord haha, so I appreciate places like cohost where people post about their zine-making processes. I would love to help out in whatever capacity I can!

As zine creators, maybe our greatest resource to get the word out is our zines themselves...? Maybe as a group we could create a graphic that everyone agrees to put in the back of their zine that includes a list of other zines to check out. That would be simple, communal, and might help tie us into a community of our own making without depending on other platforms (like social media or Discord).

reading this made me think about stuffed wombat's blogroll 22.07.23 entry, Magazine Dreams

as a reader, i would love having a mailing list/rss feed/cohost account to follow that posts about new game zine issues (and for cohost specifically, an additional, unique # per zine so i can hide the ones i don't like)

i love game zines so damn much, always wanted to start one myself but never did. eh
