My partner Della’s health has been in decline since November with mystery neurological symptoms and it looks like after extensive testing we’re either dealing with (most likely) Multiple sclerosis or (jfc) a brain tumor - and the costs keep going up.
If I’ve ever posted a photo you like or a piece of art that’s brought you joy or a song you’ve vibed to and are in a position to help out, anything is appreciated. Even if you aren't in a position to be able to help financially (BELIEVE ME I GET IT), sharing this could be a huge help.
It’s maddening to work full time and have ostensibly “good” health insurance and still be underwater with medical bills and not have any answers.
Della's written a beautiful update that I recommend reading through the link above but I did want to give some updates here:
We're still no closer to having a diagnosis for her but with all of the help we received from this campaign (holy fuck thank you all) we've been able to get many of the tests done, scheduled, or covered financially. And to top it off, her symptoms have done the 'getting better in some ways and worse in others' dance.
Now - usually the two of us make a big to-do around the end of July / early August because it's the anniversary of when we met (July 31st), her birthday (August 1st) and our wedding anniversary (August 1st, 2005). We call this Birthdaversay.
If you click through the tag you'll see some fun selfies and stories from previous years.
We didn't do anything super exciting this year because of the above medical situation - I took a week off from work, she had a doctor's apt, we got a cake with forty individual sparkle candles (which she tried to blow them all out and they re-lit and nearly set off the smoke alarm), we played a fuckload of Mario Kart and started a rewatch of Veronica Mars - it was perfect if I'm being honest.
but this means y'all are due for some cute recent selfies and adorable unearthed high school photos of us at some point, don't think you've dodged that bullet. It'll just be a bit delayed.
Anyway - thanks to everyone who helped out, either financially or through sharing. We're fucking blown away by the support. It sucks being sick, sucks worse being sick in capitalism, and is incredibly heartwarming to know people can help each other out like this.
