new prozd skit is so real about what it's often like to be complimented as a localizer online, voice actor or not, it hurts, it hurts so bad, man, i can't tell you how often i got these sorts of messages on twitter 😩😩😩

People are so weird about this. For some reason they want to make it clear that they "absolutely only watch subs/play games in Japanese and this one instance is an exception, I swear to god." Sure, there were some low effort stuff decades ago and maybe questionable direction. That doesn't mean it's the same today for everything.
I know people in the localization space from translation to editing to research to voice acting to whatever. The industry is small, and people shouldn't insult it. Everyone is trying their best. People need to embrace the entire localization chain and let everyone who is a part of it cook. They act like if they acknowledge localization is good then that makes their choice to always watch subs or play with Japanese dubs go away.
Yeah, I've never really taken it all that personally myself because usually those types don't mean it to come across as a backhanded compliment, but it's a bummer that it's still treated as this weird ideological fault line and that it's betraying some cause if they cross that completely imaginary, arbitrary line. I know plenty of people in loc who mostly play Japanese games in English in their off hours because it's the only they can turn off their work brain and they're as well equipped as anyone can be to appreciate the different merits! If they don't feel like they're betraying the Japanese industry by consuming dubs and stuff, I think just about everybody else is in the clear morally. 😮💨
