I find it mildly upsetting that I can make my blender clean by putting some soap & water inside, and then turning it on.

If I put soap and water into the fridge and close the door, it doesn't get clean. It just makes a mess. If I put soap and water into the air fryer and turn it on things turn out even worse.

I can't clean my kitchen knife by mincing up a bar of irish spring. I soap up my frying pan and then put it in the sink, not on the stove. If I put dish detergent into the coffee maker and run it, that is going to improve neither the coffee maker nor the coffee mug.

Something just seems fundamentally wrong about the blender situation. Paradoxical. It is an inversion. Like digging up to get out of a hole.

I think the thing that I don't like isn't necessarily that I'm blending soap. What gets me is the implication that during its normal operation, I'm using the blender to clean food.

i sometimes clean my cast iron skillet by boiling non-soapy water it in, really loosens up anything stuck on quickly

you can also clean an electric kettle by boiling vinegar in it

That is an especially useful tip for removing stuff that's slightly baked on, like meat that scorched on or residue of sauces that congealed. Then just a quick sponge after rinsing and you're golden.

Now Im thinking about ovens. They have a feature to crank the heat all the way up which is meant to clean them, but you cant really clean your oven that way, cuz it doesn't remove the crud, and the extreme heat can actually reduce the lifespan of some ovens.

Theres a lot of tips here about running vinegar through kitchenware so i thought it might be transferable to other things. i tried cleaning myself by filling my stomach with vinegar and unfortunately it just made me sick :(

All the blender is doing is agitating the soapy water. It's like filling a sink with soap and water then moving your hand through it really fast to create foamy water, yeah?
