Does anyone else get hangups about how much they use certain word constructions? I dunno if it's an autistic thing, an (undiagnosed) anxiety thing, or just wanting to keep best practice, but it's something I've been thinking about a lot lately for a long time. Things like:

  • adverbs
  • the word "just"
  • the word "while"
  • the perfect tense
  • hedging when it comes to giving opinions (saying "I feel like", things like that)
  • the pronoun "I" (I can't shake the sense I talk about myself too much)

Is this normal? Whether that's what people choose to call normal or it's actually normal. I also reckon I've conflated two separate things into one thing.

we're not sure we've really thought about it before, but we do this too. another one we get hangups about is repeating a phrase or notable word that either us or someone else used earlier in the conversation.
...also, using people's names when talking to or around them, other than as a greeting or to get their attention
so you're definitely not alone there. and i don't think it's much of a stretch to say this is probably a neurodivergence thing, yeah.
