[Greeting] Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services,
My name is [Name] and I am [credentials to comment (trans person/medical professional/concerned citizen)]. I strongly believe that O.A.C. 5122-26-19, and the proposed amendment to rule O.A.C. 5122-14-12 should NOT be passed.
Both proposed regulations disregard how every major medical institution suggests gender affirming care be administered. Furthermore, studies have shown gender affirming care to have vastly positive outcomes for almost everyone who accesses this care. People are twenty times more likely to regret a joint replacement surgery than they are to stop accessing gender affirming care, with rates of regretting accessing anecdotally even lower.
With a form of healthcare so safe, and with such positive outcomes, the proposed changes simply do not make sense.
In fact, restricting access to gender affirming care, and systematic targeting of transgender people, unsurprisingly results in negative outcomes. All current data suggests that access to gender affirming care reduces rates of suicidality, in trans and non-binary populations. And lack of social support, like the atmosphere created by legislative harassment, leads to increased suicidality, anxiety, and depression, in trans and non-binary youth. Some people have even been forced to leave their homes in an effort to access safety and care.
In short, I strongly believe that O.A.C. 5122-26-19, and the proposed amendment to rule O.A.C. 5122-14-12 should not be passed. There are strong, evidenced based, reasons we have the current system of care. And a change like this carries heavy social implications--implications in which some Ohians are subjected to dehumanizing conditions.
I strongly oppose O.A.C. 5122-26-19, and the proposed amendment to rule O.A.C. 5122-14-12.
Sincerely, [name]

Anyways, fuck these people. If you're ever trying to leave Ohio for the somewhat less precarious PA, do send me an ask, I've always got a couch to share.
