Leftist policies are actually quite popular so long as you don’t attach a conservative-demonized label to them. If you talk about the constituent parts of policy platforms like Universal Healthcare, dismantling police power, and UBI, then a lot of conservatives will agree that they’re reasonable and desirable (Because they ARE good). But the second that you refer to them by those labels, their brain just shuts off and they retreat back into their bubble.
It’s fascinating and scary just how much conservative politics is kept in line by thought-terminating buzzwords that they think they heard spoken on FOX News in a scary voice.
