tokusatsu, games and other cringe

So it's that time of the year where we think about spending money on product and what product we spent money on was good. I really love video games as an art form and I really enjoy a lot of video games. While there will be lots of other lists from me because I am a very list brained bitch I figured this one is a good early one to do as I speculate on what maybe could come out in 2024 that could make me excited. Honestly, none of these games need to exist, 2024 already has a ton of games I want to buy and Idk that I have the money to buy all of them, in fact I am sure I don't so hopefully these games don't exist but ya know, I do want them

I am in this being my normal cynical self but these really are things I think would be neat and I hope y'all will enjoy me speculating on some mostly more main stream shit then I normally talk about on here.

New Digimon Story Game

So we know this one is in development, it's being worked on but we've not got a lick of concept art, trailers, anything except that the Olympus 12 will matter in it. `While most of the Olympus 12 are boring it will be nice to have one of these games not be focused around The Royal Knights who have been the dominant digimon thing for a very long time.

While Hacker's memory was a hate crime at anyone marginalized who enjoyed Digimon Cyber Sleuth, the original game remains to this day one of if not the best monster taming game od all time. Digimon has had a bumpy video game road the Digimon Story side of Digimon games have been mostly on a path of steady improvement both in their ability to tell mature stories and in gameplay.

I really want to see if Cyber Sleuth was a flash of brilliance that was an accident or if the magic can be exceeded and Digimon can bring me the game I always dreamed of as a kid.

A Farming Sim

You know, I bet I could get excited about a farming sim in 2024, if only anyone was making farming sims. What if the player had a choice between 3 sets of pronouns and then could romance any of the romacable characters regardless of gender which is a topic totally avoided except in using the right pronouns. Maybe an element of magic thrown in there to help make farming less tedious and a dungeon area for simple combat. Idk if it could ever happen but one could dream.

Joking aside, I do actually really enjoy farming sims, I would love to see one break some of the mold, have like polyamory or more like actual queer identity for each character rather than the kinda standard base stuff but I got my eyes on some ones that look fairly standard anyway. We could also see more pronouns like a custom pronoun system. We could see the magic for farming be front loaded instead of held back. I think there is a ton of room for innovations in the farming sim space despite the saturation I think there is so much potential in what farming sims can be. I think we might see some stand outs next year.

New Fire Emblem

I am not talking about an FE4 remake, all my homies hate FE4, I am talking about a new Fire Emblem game by the team that made Three Houses, not the team that made Engage and Fates. Three Houses was the best Fire Emblem game since Radiant Dawn and while my interest in the series had been reducing in the 3DS era I was very hopeful. Three Houses ended up being much more then I'd have imagined being a game I still actively have political conversations about to this day. While I don't expect to be blown away by the next title I'd love if we got another Fire Emblem that was at least attempting the narrative bravery of Crimson Flower, PoR/RD, Scarlet Blaze and Golden Wildfire.

I'd love to see the return of beast units, a plot that doesn't need us to be an important lord, and the base mechanics of Tellius. Ultimately, I just want more Fire Emblem, luckily I can play rom hacks but they can never have the kind of budget Nintendo has so I would love to see where the series goes in the future and I think it's not impossible that in 2024 we get a new one given how quickly FE games have been coming out lately and that there is two dev teams working on Fire Emblem console games.

Deltarune

Not at all coping, it could happen in 2024, it could, totally, why not, I mean, it could, right, in theory, hypothetically. I don't want the game rushed, I'll take it in 2030 if need be, just in theory, in could be 2024, wouldn't that be nice, Susie and Noelle can finally kiss, maybe, hopefully, I hope at least.

Both episodes could easily be top tier indie games of their own, amazingly cute self contained stories that are really amazing and I look forward to seeing the rest of the package has to offer.

New Monster Rancher

I mean, would there be a more perfect time to pivot the rancher part of Monster Rancher into like a true farming type game while keeping all the cool parts of Monster Rancher? The series has always been one I really enjoyed but wanted to see improved, the standard formula was good but not great and I think there is an chance to innovate the series. What if doing farm tasks were what raised your monsters abilities and the battle system was more refined, I think there is a lot to be done and I could see myself getting really excited for a new Monster Rancher.

Full Ass DLCs For Games I like

A lot of DLC is shit but sometimes DLC is good, sometimes it's great even and it's like an expansion that is really good. I would like if there was DLCs that I wanted for games I already like or similar. BG3 has a lot of things I wanted fixed or improved on that could be a good ground for DLC, Cassette Beasts is already doing a DLC but I'd love another one that makes the ending not bad, The season 2 pass for SF6 could have actually interesting characters in it unlike Season 1, GG Strive could have characters I am interested in too, I think En Garde! could totally have a story expansion. Those are just some off the top of my head but ya, I don't mind not having to buy a new game but just getting expanded on a game I already love when it's actually significant.

New Megaman Battle Network Spinoff series

The Megaman Battle Network Legacy Collection was a big success so it's time for a spinoff of Battle Network, not Starforce. Like a series that plays like battle network but has a new cast, upgrades to the systems and modern sleek sprite work. Maybe we can have a girl Megaman again, ZX tried to give us the option, let's do it this time. Megaman Battle Network has inspired a lot of really amazing games that are currently out there and there is a clear desire to see this formula done again. I think bringing in devs from these projects could be an amazing way to innovate but even just seeing what the team at Capcom could do and if they could remain on top with great competition like Mask of The Goddess and One Step From Eden around would be really cool. I think if we're bringing megaman back, this is the one with the clear unquie design that could actually do justice to the series.

Shadowverse Flame Video Game

The Shadowverse video game was shockingly good and fun, I really liked it and when I watched the start of Shadowverse Flame after having played the video game I thought, man I can't wait for the video game but ummm there is still no video game announced but I don't wanna play the fucking gacha game, no I want to buy a game one time for 40 to 60 dollars. You already got school club baked into the concept or you could pick a faction if you wanted to deviate from the main story and focus on player choice. I think really though it can mostly kinda go over a plot staring some OCs while using the cast of Shadowverse Flame around it and tell a fairly liner and stream lined story along with some throwbacks to the previous game bringing back the OCs from there near the end game that likely will never show up in the proper anime.

A Cardfight Vangaurd Video Game That Is Good

This is asking a lot because Cardfight! Vanguard video games are typically bad as of late but one could be good, probably if they swapped devs. The overpriced mess that is Dear Days was so close to being something cool but instead it is an insanely expensive and poorly translated simulator of about a year ago in the TCG. Despite having a woman as the protagonist the game also deeply centered men with almost every character in the plot other then the MC being a man and every other playable character was a man. They could return to the 3DS era create a protagonist style or actually make an attempt to bring women into vanguard and let women be at the center of the story in the way men have been since the first anime. I want to be excited about A Vanguard Game like I was about the 3DS games I never got to play because they remained Japan only.

Soulcalibur VII

Street Fighter 6 was a massive success and a large part of that was it it was going things Soulcaliber had been already doing. Character Customization with a plot tied into it, more simplistic controls, a focus on player agency. These are all things that the series has done to some extent and could do better if Bandai wanted to. While I prefer 2D fighting I have always had a soft spot for this series and it is one I grinded on daily attempting to become a competitive player back with it's poorly received attempt at a time skip. I'd love to see what they could do with this series if they followed the lead of the amazing work already being done by Capcom and Arc System Works in attempting to expand fighting games scope. Clearly the team on SC has wanted to do this for the longest time always releasing some of the most ambitious stuff in fighting games. I just wanna see them cook.
