I've done a lot of thinking about Signalis since playing it recently, and I've come to a conclusion:

Ariane, like Homura, did nothing wrong.
My conclusion is that Ariane and Elster have a "happy ending" at the expense of an entire society which, frankly, had it coming. There's just...y'know. A fuckload of innocent sentient beings caught up in this with a possibility for those responsible for said society not feeling the brunt of it.
So. There's that.
Maybe if the Nation didn't want to be reduced into a primordial soup of flesh then they shouldn't of sent people into space to die and dug great holes where earth's pores ought to suffice.
