I have a certain way about not wanting to make statements about which games I think are the best partly because there's no way for me to try everything. But I have made a list more akin to "my favourite games of all time, not trying to filter out bias and nostalgia but embracing it" and hey anyways. I made a top 25 list
I'm not posting the list in its entirety for reasons.
I can't really detach myself from the fact that I spent many years on minecraft servers with friends or "To the moon" was a formative experiences. Portal 2 was mindblowing, I caught undertale at peak hype. And I definitely can't like, affect the pool of games I had access to before that. And I can't really change the number of hours I put into games that honestly kind of suck, or which games I randomly spilled 3 months into getting stupid good at. chess fighting game.
And I know I'm gonna suffer from recency bias too. It's like nostalgia bias and recency bias are duelling eachother in my brain. I don't know if Outer Wilds truly is in my top 3 or just something I played in the last year, we'll see
because I know it's just a toybox full of 3d models and narration and yet in a time of crisis it put out a message that could in some level resonate with me. Which I entirely attribute to being in the right time at the right place, and it made me feel at peace.
