what made DS9 great was the concept of doing a star trek show where the focus was largely on the weird little freaks. what made it the most important piece of genre television of its era was peeling back the layer on all the sympathetic protagonist-coded human leads to reveal the weird little freaks beneath.

Honestly yeah. Like it shows how the Federation actually keeps all these disparate and different folks together, making a real community. I love my busted ass space station
Sisko was such a good show-writer, they really should have brought him back to write Voyager
also props to the writers for going, "oh damn, we made this bad guy too likeable? he's Space Hitler now. fuck, nerds still think he's cool? fine, guess we'll need to revolve the final arc around Space Hitler also becoming the Space Antichrist"
