even in star wars there's like. Only one type of biome per planet, maybe 2 if it's getting really fancy
As I've rewatched (for my blog where I try to dig out the social environment), it consistently amazes me how the franchise gets such a reputation for presenting a utopia, when...the Federation honestly seems like a pretty crappy place to live, especially the fact that the characters seem to have so little exposure to the universe. Like, even Spock, whose family has a cozy relationship with Vulcan's leadership and always tries to emphasize his non-human heritage, when he needs a metaphor, he reaches for either Christianity or British literature.
I'm sure that's the writers' motivation, but (a) this is a franchise that simultaneously delights in presenting nonsensical science instead of asking us to accept that things work, (b) that sort of reference is almost always "color commentary" that probably didn't give anybody in the audience insight into the plot, and (c) they could've used the Chekov solution where everybody's pop culture references are just American references with slightly modified names.
Jennifer is at least something. Andorian, but named, well, Jennifer.
