I think it would be fun to play with era indicators in film. Like, massive synthy soundtrack jarringly juxtaposed with 50s-era midatlantic accents. Hair from the 60s and clothes from the 90s. It should probably all be building towards some sort of point but we can figure that out later.

I think Dark City did this to some extent.
If you watch it, make sure it's the director's cut which removes the opening narration that spoils the big reveal.
