Hi! So I'm a MtF and I'm starting voice training next week (after not having much success on my own) with a voice therapist who's specialized in the matter, and I'm really nervous and afraid, do you have any sort of advice for newbies to voice feminization?

Thanks, and have a nice day!

A good voice therapist will be able to guide you through the technical process pretty effectively, but I think the most important thing to remember is that you're aiming for something that's comfortable for you. I found voice training very helpful for breaking out of my old vocal patterns, but I've also ended up with a day-to-day voice that feels more me than what I was using immediately after I graduated, even if that "passed" more. Passing is an illusion!

My secondary tip is this: hearing your own recorded voice sucks at first for pretty much everyone, but during voice training you'll be listening to it a lot and you'll probably get over that. If you can, keep recording it and listening to recordings even afterwards, both to keep it from becoming awkward and to have something to look back on to see how it's changed over time.

I see! I appreciate the good advice a ton. It's very easy to get lost and it took me a real while and was hard to find a voice therapist for trans people in my hometown in Argentina. So it's always relieving to hear out other people's experience and more importantly, that it is possible!

I hope it all goes well. More than I really care about passing (or "sounding CIS"), I care about being read as feminine and finding something that feels honest to me and is comfortable to me.

Thanks.
