have you ever read the manga sakura trick? that's this 100%. it's about two "best friends" who are worried about drifting apart when they enter high school so they start making out regularly. peak bestie. it takes them their entire high school career to realize that they're gay. highly recommend it, there's also an anime that covers the first third but it's EXTREMELY fanservicey for whatever reason and also just not very good
alas, it was never officially translated, so you'd have to read it online :(
