I maintain that the real reading of Columbo is that he's actually a recurring villain, and it's the (anti)hero that gets refreshed every week. The show even uses kinda creepy music when he shows up! He has no regard for personal rights, space, or privacy. He hardly cares about warrants!
Anyway the moral is to never EVER talk to cops.
he's more the "horror movie monster" that comes to haunt the protagonist after they do something terrible.
that being said, NEVER talk to cops.
Oh that's a very good way of putting it.
Cops ARE monsters. Especially the cute ones.
Oh I love the reading of Columbo as a horror monster for the murderer. I am definitely gonna think about this when I watch the show from now on
not exactly, but there was ONE killer (culp, a recurring actor on columbo) that kinda calls him out on it in a great exchange, one of my favorites. did a "subtext subtitle" for it some time ago https://www.tumblr.com/tiganas/724380732748890112/columbo-with-subtitles-reading-between-the-lines?source=share
Oh yeah, Columbo is ABSOLUTELY included in All Cops Are Bastards
Disregard for evidence law, always working his way around the right against self-incrimination, manipulating his way into people's homes and offices
And his superiors let him get away with all of it, cause they love the guy. No cops are good cops
fucked up like 'who thinks like that' or fucked up like murdering someone
