Anonymous User asked:

What are some of your favorite music albums or soundtracks?

this is a bit of a tough one because there are a lot of albums I love but not much of a tier list within that category, so it's hard to choose few enough to feasibly list here. as a tiebreaker, I'm going to try to avoid Acknowledged Classics and focus on albums that have some personal meaning to me in addition to being aesthetically my jam

  • Wee Tam by the Incredible String Band may be the first album I really loved. My parents got it for me as a young teen along with a bunch of other music they'd listened to and I imprinted on it hard.

  • Rituals, Trances, & Ecstasies for Humans in the Face of Collapse by Kithkin. This is a local group that is sadly disbanded now, but I used to go see them live occasionally with my friend Alyssa (who introduced me to a lot of my favorite music) and I love their stuff.

  • Remain in Light by Angélique Kidjo. Granted the original album is a classic, but to my mind Kidjo's covers elevate it even beyond the transcendent original. This took my breath away the first time I heard it and has been a regular in rotation ever since.

  • The Vine by Kitka. Eastern European vocal music hits my brain in just the right way, and this is one of my go-tos for when I'm in a particularly intense mood. One of a number of albums that reminds me that I can reach out and touch the universe.

  • Dirty Computer by Janelle Monáe. Definitely the least obscure of this list, but I have such an intense memory of listening to this for the first time with @JhoiraArtificer on a drive down to Portland and it's been an absolute favorite ever since.
