oh yeah i feel this way about a lot of manga/anime's english titles. i submitted a lot of tag synonyms yesterday lol
In French it’s Gloutons et dragons and that’s always felt more fitting to me
I believe you speak some Spanish, right? Have you heard of our greatly superior name, Tragones y Mazmorras?
D&D is called Dragones y Mazmorras in spanish, and tragón means "someone who eats/swallows a lot". I am infinitely grateful to whoever at MilkyWay came up with the pun.
Splitting the difference by calling it Delicious in Dungeon Meshi
I suspect this is one of those cases where the English title was mandated from the Japanese publisher/the original artist. From what I hear that happens pretty often, even/especially when the title that was picked doesn't sound great to native English speakers.
(My favourite case that almost made it was when early English promotion for a light novel insisted on calling it "All points are divided to VIT because a painful one isn't liked". It got changed.)
Yup! That’s the English title on the Japanese volumes, and it was used by at least one early English press release
Just straight up calling it Dungeon Food in English would have been so much better
