We're about a quarter of the way into 80 Days in 80 Days (although in practice I'm guessing most active players will finish well before 80 days are up), and the map looks like this. The folks clustered in Europe have given up the ghost, but I'm excited to see how different the routes are that everyone else is taking. I remember thinking when I first played, "probably most people do what I'm doing, right?" but it's clear that there's simply no universal and obvious way to go and I think that's very cool.
In the lead on the Russian front are @ratbaby and @mallumet, with @mallumet leading by a nose but @ratbaby with more cash on hand. In (what was at the time) India, @two and @garak leading the way in the north and south respectively, while @amerai and I are heading up the pack of whoever decided to circumnavigate the world by heading south for some reason.
Don't count out the people who are further back, though; many of them spent their extra time in Europe amassing fortunes that will allow them to take the swiftest routes from here on out without regard for cost and with no need to spend costly days waiting for a bank withdrawal. And this game always has its surprises—even the most prepared player (and they knows who they are) could find themselves unavoidably delayed or derailed!
