Imo a pie doesn't strictly require a bready thing on top
The main thing instead is that it is a bready bowl, that may or may not have a bready lid, with a gooshy filling that is cooked inside the bready bowl
Soup in a bread bowl is not a pie, because the soup is cooked separately, but a deep-dish pizza is a pie
A pizza is a pie. A calzone is an inverted pizza. A quesadilla is a Mexican calzone, i.e. the opposite of a pie.
