feel free to hide this because it's not germaine to the joke, but it turns out birds have a REALLY weak sense of smell and taste! It's one of the things about them that makes a bunch of Australian birds so destructive. They don't know if things are good to eat until they've wrecked them up and tasted the surface pretty thoroughly, so they'll do things like shred plastic lining in case that something inside it tastes good. Because it might, but they need to be thorough!
that sounds like a "yes" to the original question to me. the birds would be like, "holy fuck, these bugs have so much flavor"
