i think a lot of people just really want cohost to fail so they can feel smug & superior for having said "i told you so"

i think a lot of people just really want cohost to fail so they can feel smug & superior for having said "i told you so"
It's easier to be a hater, I guess.
I want to believe in the truth of posting. I want there to be nice places.
one day we'll find a way to make those nice places anything other than "locked accounts with all shares turned off". i believe
There's a certain strain of AngerQueer that really really gets off on having a plausible soft target to write 8 essay-length posts in a day about
they never seem to go after people in power do they, the puriteens. WEIRD
[staff provides soft language around the enforcement of a subgenre of a subgenre of pornography on account of it being basically impossible to enforce with any form of consistency]
USER WHOSE ENTIRE OUTPUT HAS BECOME SANCTIMONIOUS DISINGENUOUS FINGER-WAGGING, SALIVATING AT THE MOUTH: I can't believe it. I've been tricked. Staff are basically Jeffrey Epstein mixed with Jeffrey Dahmer. Calling all of my followers to (respectfully!) send them death threats until we (I) get what I want
It seems so clear to me that the policy is intended to prevent as much harm as possible, banning anything that could harm an actual person while also trying to allow maximum freedom of expression. And the puritan brigade is taking the worst possible faith reading of the policy and acting like its free range child porn territory now. Very frustrating.
I desperately wanna be like "yeah I think the policy is dumb but I don't think it's enough to make me consider leaving, personally." It's always framed under the assumption that everyone who disagrees with the policy wants to leave if they don't change it. Not every dispute about policy has to be an ultimatum.
Main reason I'm not saying that though is I've decided I refuse to make any more discourse posts this month. I've given my 2 cent quota already.
yeah, the framing of it all has been weird. it's also framed like staff will Never reconsider and you must Fight and Scream about it. just send a polite email about it, they're clearly willing to listen. i need to unplug from the discourse too...
the people most likely to speak up about any given behavioral pattern within any given group, are also the ones most likely to leave first.
Which means that (especially online but also in general) some friend groups tend to drift towards extremes if active effort isn't being put in to compromise-based conflict resolution. So then, you get these extreme poles that exist because all the people who say "so maybe this isn't all that" were driven off, and the only ones who remain are the ones cool with the pattern, or those new enough to not yet see it. And that's not all on them, but it's always self-fulfilling in that way if there isn't active structures to push against it.
And it's largely inevitable -- at that point all the passive actions have been taken and failed, and some active. Anyway it feels like this is the same sorta poles again as last time here, from the same people on both poles, and I just. want off this wild ride
all i know how to do is to make sure i keep the puriteens off my BBS. that's the only online space where i'm fully in control. other than that... it's tricky
