i have this fantasy that Elon's stupid ego will topple Twitter and all the big social media sites will crumble with it, and there's no obvious twitter/facebook/everything replacement. so things like cohost and (god forbid) forums & personal websites will be the thing we do. whatever happens, we need these smaller online communities that aren't trying to take over the world and all the free time in it

i have absolutely no problem with smaller focused communities. its 2022, password managers exist, it is not necessary for me to have one login to talk to Everybody, and the risks of attracting unwanted attention far outweigh any (largely nonexistent) cross-pollination promises.
nobody's ever gotten interested in my electronics hacking because they clicked on one of my leftist pol tweets, but they have clicked on latter tweets and attempted to dox based on my fcc license record.
insert credit forums are pretty chill
