caffeine has a metabolic half life of between 4-7 hours. 4 hours for physically active people, 7 hours for sedentary people. that means that it takes 4-7 hours for your body to cut the amount of caffeine in your bloodstream down by half. it is generally agreed upon that the average maximum amount of caffeine you can have in your bloodstream and still fall asleep is somewhere around 45mg, though this can vary significantly per person based on a lot of factors (activity levels, sleep debt, illness, resting heart rate, diet, etc). so if you want to sleep by, say, midnight, you want to make sure that you have less than 45mg of caffeine in your bloodstream by 5pm. i straight up never drink any caffeine past 5 anymore
