my compost 1 creation... took about an hour and a half. the longer the prompt, the more i struggle with this kind of thing... worrying about how the direction i pick fits with every possible reading of the prompt. can't do em all in one song. and when you try, it can become unfocused, which is my impression now of the b section... but i got to play with some new tools so i had a good time!

  1. absolutely adore the vibes of that borrowed major with that first little string arpeggio
  2. what in the world is going on with that piano?? seems like a really fine tuned reverb but i really can't tell. idk why that sort of sonic palette hits so heavily for me--the only thing i feel like i've heard that's similar is the piano in outer wilds so maybe that's why lmao.
  3. all praise tancla, may his presets forever bless our battles so that we need not waste our time on synth design

lol ty!! identifying the tancla presets by ear is so powerful! the piano is pianoteq with reverb and the "blooming energy" physical modeling parameter turned up - gives it just a little steel drum character... i feel like piano but messed up a little in any direction (bitcrush, etc.) is such a good shortcut to emotional impact

i've just used that buzzy 1-5-4 arp pretty heavily in a song before so i practically know it by heart lol
and steel drum character is a great way to describe it omg. gonna have to look into pianoteq cuz that was a great first impression

oooh, not only really strong tension but also the way the piece blooms and flourishes for moments and into the B-section...! lovely writing, as expected :D i would love to be sneakin' around this area of a game and vibing to this tune for a while, it's a great fit
