I watched Godzilla Minus One with my partner and she was floored. At the first appearance of Godzilla in that movie, she almost screamed. It was the scariest version she'd ever seen.

By the end of the movie, she had cried twice. For someone who loves monster movies so much, it was everything she ever wanted, though she did specify that Godzilla: King of Monsters is still her favourite. To quote, "Godzilla Minus One is about HUMAN EMOTIONS, then Godzilla for a little bit. HUMAN EMOTIONS! Godzilla. But the one with Ghidorah is MONSTERS! MONSTERS ALL THE TIME! RAWR!"

Afterwards, she said that Minus One was so good that she was curious about the other Japanese godzilla movies.

"So have you watched Shin Godzilla (2016)?" I asked.

"There was one in 2016???"

Me, knowing Anno movies and full well what I'm about to put her through:

I showed her Shin Godzilla. Within 20 minutes, she started screaming. "I get it! Bureacracy is bad! Oh my god, did they have to make the movie boring too?"

She fell asleep during the first action scene and woke up when it ended. "This is the worst godzilla movie ever."

The Japanese actress speaking bad English destroyed her. She asked for the runtime, saw it was 2 hours, and begged me to make it stop.

I could not stop laughing. We fast forwarded through the rest of the film.

Anyway, she hasn't seen The Host (2006) yet and since that's one of my favourites, I think I'll show it to her next time to make up for the suffering I put her through today.

And then maybe I'll tell her there's a sequel made in 2013 also called The Host...also with parasites...by bestselling author Stephanie Meyer...
