A friend of mine works in marketing and says there's been an increasing push by companies to add any sort of gaming to their lineup, even if the company isn't in gaming.
He then mimicked one of the presenters that went to their agency:
"So we want to push the idea that if they don't have games, then they're behind the curve."
"Look, we know what you're thinking! But it's not all teenage boys! 40 percent of them are women! 40 PLUS EVEN! Some of them don't identify as gamers, but they are! Do you play scrabble on your phone? Guess what, you're a gamer now!"
And then, flailing:
"Gamers! Game of thrones, yeah? GAMERS OF THRONES!"
I told him that last part sounded far too ludicrous to be true, but his reply was that I would be surprised how out of touch (and desperate) they can get.
