Okay, now that you've had a bite, you're obligated to tell me where you'd recommend living in Melbourne, suburb-wise so I can scout it out on my next trip. Ideally, close to the CBD/good public transport and hopefully--somehow, someway--affordable. Any places to avoid would also be nice.

So far, I quite like North Mel, Carlton, Fitzroy, Collingwood, since they're all super nice walkable areas. Brunswick was nice too! I've been recommended West (like Footscray/Yarraville) but I've only been there once and it seems very difficult for public transport; also it's back to the suburbia that I'm trying to escape from and I'd like to move to a walkable city-ish area.

EDIT: forgot to ask, what part of melbourne floods since I heard it got pretty bad last time
