They won in the end I suppose. When’s the last time you used IE6

We won but they replaced IE6 by Google Chrome so it really is a "we won but at what cost" type situation.

(And somehow people keep parroting the "Safari is the new IE6" joke as if Google wasn't even more controlling of the Web than Microsoft was back then lolsob)

Safari killed Flash so of course it was the greatest evil, Chrome was just a plucky upstart freeing us from the tyranny of IE6. Firefox was just Firefox, hanging out, being chill.

in reply to @eramdam's post:

chrome is still actively developed though. like google being the dominant player isn't good but the core problem with ie6 was that it was (a) wrong (b) buggy even when it was right (c) abandoned

Whenever I look at any feature needed to get good typography in websites I see that Firefox partially implemented it in 2004, finished it in like 2010, Safari added it in either 2008 or 2012 or something, and Chrome got around to adding it in 2023. Chrome is way ahead on random JS APIs they made up and I feel like they’re behind on everything else.
