Digital Culture and its Discontents

A place where video games get picked apart to examine the gooey Ideology inside

There's lots of excellent writing in here from throughout 2022. Pieces like Madeline Blondeau's article on queer relationships in Rule of Rose and Meghna Jayanth's GCSA talk, "Game Design in the Imperial Mode," but also stuff like "Your Apocalypse is Bad and Wrong and I would Know." by Nicanor Gordon and Carly A. Kocurek's "THE MAN WITH THE GUN IS A BOY WHO PLAYS GAMES: VIDEO GAMES, WHITE INNOCENCE, AND MASS SHOOTINGS IN THE U.S." Basically there's a whole wide swath of good games crit represented in this list, from individuals and small sites up to the Big Leagues and academic games criticism.

No Escape got mentioned a couple times as well! @Jeremy-writes wrote a banger of the post early on in the year, "The Curse of Content, or Burying Your Friends,' which got featured. Two features from the magazine also got in there! Farouk Kannout's NORCO piece, "Face Where You Come From, Even If It Hurts," and Alephwyr's "A Rain to End and a Flower to Begin" both made it into the roundup, which is excellent!

(My personal favorite bit of writing I did at No Escape also got a shoutout.)

Basically it was a good year for games writing's output, if nothing else.
